With puppy claws crossed, hoping that Hollywood gets it well, somewhere close to right, Moshi and Kibo are anxiously awaiting the upcoming release of Hachiko: A Dog’s Story, starring Richard Gere.

Hachikō (pronounced HA-chi-ko) was an Akita born in 1923 and adopted by college professor, Hidesaburō Ueno, who moved to Tokyo in 1924.  Each morning, Hachikō followed Professor Ueno to the nearby train station and then returned again to the station in the afternoon to wait for his owner to return.

One day in 1925, Professor Ueno suffered a stroke and died at work, not returning to Hachikō, who was then adopted by Professor Ueno’s relatives.  Yet, everyday for the next nine years, Hachikō returned to the train station in the afternoon, with hope that Professor Ueno would return.

Hachikō made the journey each day until his own death in 1935.   A bronze statue of Hachikō was later erected at the train station in remembrance of the commitment and loyalty shown by Hachikō.

The story of Hachikō was captured in a 1987 film Hachikō Monogatari and is also the subject of several children’s books including Hachiko Waits and Hachiko.

The new movie, Hachiko, A Dog’s Story, is expected to be released in late 2008 with Richard Gere starring as an American professor in a modern day adaptation of the original story.  Moshi and Kibo hope it will be a two paws up success.

Kibo, who put the social in social media, was out Digging dog stories today on Digg and found an article that she thought was quite amusing, so we thought we’d pass it on.  Seems there is “Evidence that dogs may be able to read the mind of their owners…from a study that shows that dogs can ‘catch’ human yawns.”  Wow, humans paid for a study to figure that one out.  Dog :-)  ~ Moshi and Kibo

Kibo and Moshi just arrived back from Grand Lake where they had a great weekend playing in the cool temperatures, eating lots of fabulous food and just hanging out relaxing.

Kibo says even though everyone made her pose on the red kiddie chair for pics, she thought it was great fun.

The girls stopped off in Tulsa at the pet-friendly DoubleTree Warren Place and enjoyed playing in the park out back.
